REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, known as REACH, was approved on 18 December 2006 and entered into force on 1 June 2007.

The most important aspects of the new Regulation are:

  • Its aim is to guarantee a high level of protection for human health and the environment, including promoting alternative methods for the assessment of hazardous substances, as well as ensuring the free circulation of substances on the internal market, while promoting competition and innovation.
  • It is based on the principle that it is up to the manufacturers, importers and intermediate users to guarantee that they only manufacture, market or use substances that have no negative effects on human health or the environment.
  • It introduces the responsibility for transmitting information on chemical products to all participants in the supply chain.

The Regulation will affect over 30000 substances marketed in the European Union It establishes the need to register any substances marketed in quantities greater than 1 ton per year, evaluate substances of very high concern and high production volume and obtain authorization for or restrict high concern substances.

FMC Lithium fully supports the objectives of REACH relating to the protection of health and safety for humans and the environment. We have followed the development of the Regulation from its inception, allowing us to prepare the best registration strategy for our products.
